Two free cable ferries run by the province on lakes in the Interior, and one private ship that crosses the border from Victoria.
British Columbia keeps its big coastal routes with BC Ferries, but the crossings on this page are of another kind. Harrop, on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, and Adams Lake, north of the Trans-Canada in the Shuswap, are inland ferries: owned by the province, run by private contractors for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, and free for every vehicle and passenger. Neither has a departure list. Harrop works on demand around the clock; Adams Lake works on demand from 05:00 to 03:00 and keeps the small hours for emergencies.
The third crossing leaves the province altogether. The Coho sails from Victoria's Inner Harbour to Port Angeles in Washington State on a published timetable, charges in US dollars and puts every traveller through border formalities. From 4 January to 3 February 2027 it is out of service for its annual maintenance, according to the operator's timetable.
